First Annual Bay Ridge Pie Social
The Art Room will host the First Annual Bay Ridge Pie Social, a benefit for the Guild for Exceptional Children. Local not-for-profit Guild for Exceptional Children is dedicated to addressing the needs of children and adults with developmental disabilities — and their families. Do you bake? Co-host Justin Brannan is recruiting pie bakers for the event. Your $5 entry fee, and a donation of 2 homemade pies, buys you 5 tasting tickets — so you can sample the competition — plus 2 raffle tickets. If you’re more of a pie eater than a baker, there will still be plenty for you to do. Your $20 entry buys you 5 tasting tickets — which translates into 5 tasty slices of pie — plus 2 raffle tickets. Sunday, November 28. 1 p.m. $5/$20. 8710 Third Avenue, The Art Room.
W.O.R.D. UP! Words of Real Distinction
Visit Brooklyn Children’s Museum for a special W.O.R.D. UP! Words of Real Distinction reading (made possible in part by the Verizon Foundation). This unique W.O.R.D. UP! reading commemorates Native American heritage, announces a new Reading Room collaborative with Literacy Inc. (LINC), and features a special presentation by Ms. Deborah Dessaure – LINC Community Coordinator – who will delight children with a reading of the book, Where Did You Get Your Moccasins? written by Native American author Bernelda Wheeler. Where Did You Get Your Moccasins?, set within an urban elementary school, is about a young boy named Jody, whose classmates are curious about his new pair of moccasins. Friday, November 26. 1 p.m. Brooklyn Children’s Museum.
