Co-sponsored by both our NYC Councilmembers, Diana Reyan and Stephen Levin, this is the only school fair in NYC that invites all schools to a single venue to promote their schools & programs to prospective students and parents. Boricua, Cornell and Yale will be coming, as well because your kids can’t be too young to be thinking about colleges! There will be FREE workshops presented by Joyce Szuflita of NY SchoolHelp (normally $30 pp, $45 for a family) to help understand and navigate the complicated NYC public school application process. Harvest Festival 2010
The Brooklyn Bridge Park Conservancy, in partnership with Brooklyn Bridge Park, will celebrate the fall season with a Harvest Festival on Pier 6! This event will feature a Halloween parade, musical guests, face painting, storytelling, art activities, and pumpkin decorating sponsored by Securitas. Children will pot plants in honor of “It’s My Park Day,” and make masks for Halloween. On the stage: The Deedle Deedle Dee’s will bring their original and clever music to the park and a storyteller will perform. The Transit Museum, Brooklyn Historical Society and American Ballet Theatre will host tables, and Half Pint Citizens will be in the sandbox leading a fun family craft activity; Autumn Leaves Picture Frames! Various other local organizations and partners will host activity tables. We hope you will join in at this celebration of fall on Pier 6! Saturday, October 23. 10:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. Free. The Brooklyn Flea
The Brooklyn Flea is located in the Bishop Loughlin schoolyard in Fort Greene on Saturdays and at Skylight One Hanson (the former Williamsburgh Savings Bank across from the Atlantic Center mall) on Sundays. The Flea features over a 100 vendors offering a great mix of vintage, antiques, jewelry, and food. Saturday & Sunday, October 23 & 24. 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Free. 176 Lafayette Avenue and One Hanson Place.

Ghouls and Gourds
Ghouls and Gourds is an offbeat, eclectic Halloween celebration, humming with colorful music, imaginative hands-on workshops, and our celebrated costume parade and drum circle. This year, the event has a pronounced farm theme to it, complete with giant scarecrows and a barn dance. It’s going to be a guaranteed great time! All are welcome! Saturday, October 24. 12 p.m. – 6 p.m. Kids under 12 are free! $10/$15. 900 Washington Avenue, Brooklyn Botanic Garden.
Cooper Park Fall Fest
This Saturday is another It’s My Park Day! Town Square is co-sponsoring Cooper Park Fall Fest, a clean-up involving a totally fun time for kids at Cooper Park. There will also be a clean-up at McCarren Park spearheaded by Partnerships for Parks. Come on out and have a great time! Saturday, October 23. Cooper Park: 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. Free. Nightmare on Franklin and Greene
A pre-Halloween screening of short films investigating amputated limbs, plastic masquerade, psychedelic monsters, psychological shifting and gory pleasure. Including such hot topics as the Kennedy Assassination (Mike Easterbrook) horror and feminism (Aran Reo Mann), the uncanny (Jessie Stead, Jennet Thomas) , Alien Mustaches (William Skullmaster), Monster Monkeys (Erin Dunn) and gender transformation (Jeanne Liotta, Marianna Ellenberg). Get in the Halloween mood with this scary but not terrifying evening of experimental short movies- intriguing, funny, weird. Shredding Truck
PS 321 has organized a shredding truck from Shred Services on Saturday. The truck will be parked outside the school in Park Slope. The cost is $10 per large box with $5 donated by Shred Services back to the school. Get rid of your old confidential papers safely and conveniently — while supporting a local elementary school and helping it offset Dept. of Ed. budget cuts. Saturday, October 23. 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. $10 per large box. 180 Seventh Avenue between First and Second Streets in Park Slope Brooklyn.
