Crown Heights North House Tour
This Saturday, October 6, the Crown Heights North Association sponsors its First Annual House and Garden Tour. Celebrating the area’s recent designation as the first new Historic District in Brooklyn in over 10 years, the inaugural tour will visit 10 houses, two churches, and one community garden. A 10:30 a.m. kick-off event is planned, to which Mayor Bloomberg, Marty Markowitz, LPC Commissioner Tierney, and local officials have been invited. Open House New York
This Saturday and Sunday, America’s largest architecture and design event takes place at locations throughout New York City. The fifth annual city-wide event features many buildings in Brooklyn. Check the website for more information.

The New Yorker Festival in Brooklyn
This weekend, Brooklyn hosts events as part of The New Yorker Festival. On Friday, singer-songwriter Fiona Apple talks with music journalist Sasha Frere-Jones. First Friday at RePOP

Brooklyn Museum First Saturday
As part of its First Saturday series, Brooklyn Museum celebrates the BAM 25th Next Wave Festival and the new exhibition “Infinite Island: Contemporary Caribbean Art.” In addition to the usual offerings of live music, dance, and readings, the museum is holding a YouTube Visitor Video Competition. Tabla Rasa Gallery Fundraiser
This Sunday, Tabla Rasa Gallery, in collaboration with Danny Simmons and Daniel Scheffer, presents “Pump It Up!” A “paint-in” for clean drinking water in African villages, the event raises money for Playpumps International, who provide clean water in rural African communities with the use of children’s play equipment. Bedford-Stuyvesant 10K
This Sunday, Bedford-Stuyvesant hosts its 26th Annual 10K Run and Fun Walk. The 2nd Annual Bed-Stuy Gateway Family Fun Fest, sponsored by the Fulton Street BID, takes place after the run.
