Brooklyn Current Screening at Scene: Brooklyn
scene-brooklyn-logo.jpgAs part of the Scene: Brooklyn, Independent Film and Media Arts event, there will be a special screening of three documentary films that explore some of the most important issues facing Brooklyn and its residents today. From gentrification to the subprime mortgage crisis, intimate accounts from those affected shed light on the stories that put the borough in the headlines. One of the films, Brooklyn Boondoggle, focuses on the controversial Atlantic Yards development project.

Sheepshead Bay/Plumb Beach Civic Association Meeting
At the Sheepshead Bay/Plumb Beach Civic Association meeting, officials of the Environmental Task Force Operations will discuss marine debris removal. Also on the agenda is the planning for Memorial Day Parade, Lundy’s development, and Brigham Street Park news.

City Planning Commission Public Hearing
A public hearing will be held by the City Planning Commission on the Canarsie Rezoning (land use application for a change to the zoning map), the Brighton Beach Rezoning (land use applications for a zoning map change), and the Coney Island Plan.

Brooklyn Blogfest
Brooklyn Blogfest is an event for bloggers, blog readers, and the blog curious. It’s your chance to meet your favorite bloggers, learn about blogging, and maybe even be inspired to blog. There will also be a video tribute to Brooklyn’s photo bloggers. The after-party (of course, there is an after-party) is across the street at Galapagos Art Space complete with a cash bar.

Historic Districts Council’s Preservation Lobby Day
Historic Districts Council has arranged a rally for the Annual Preservation Lobby Day. They will be rallying for continued and enhanced support for the Landmarks Preservation Commission’s budget. If you can join, email belfer@hdc.org and they will provide signs identifying your neighborhood.

Brooklyn: Birthplace of Comedians
The Society of Old Brooklynites’ monthly meeting will focus on “Brooklyn: Birthplace of Comedians.” Speaking will be Dr. Joseph Dorinson, chair of the History Department at LIU and adjunct professor at St. Francis College. He is the author of several well-received books on baseball, Brooklyn, and humor.
