The Arena is not in Boerum Hill, but Atlantic, State, Dean St. etc will be major feeder streets for traffic coming off the Brooklyn Bridge and the BQE. In the shenanigans involved with this project, most of Boerum Hill was considered unimpacted by the Arena since the “impact area” was only a few block radius.
Worst case of sidewalk mis-etiquette I saw in PS is a 30ish mother letting her toddler amble down the sidewalk. A woman approaching from the other way comes up and the toddler stops, so the other woman must now stop (I was trying to pass). The four of us totally stopped, the mother absent-mindedly letting her kid walk. The other woman glared, I did not, I would have to turn around to do so.
Re: Speed Bump in Nets Neighborhood. Is the new arena in Boerum Hill? I thought it was pretty firmly in Ft. Greene.
Regardless, I would love for the 20 MPH speed reduction to be applied on DeKalb Ave. as well. It would do a lot to reduce traffic volume as well as making DeKalb Ave. safer for pedestrians and bicyclists. As it stands, it’s a speedway and a danger.
I was born and raised in NYC- I’ve seen politeness, and common sense when walking around people, but a rule? Never. People are not cars. They walk at different paces. They stop to look in store windows. If someone wants to pass you, be polite enough to give them room- but other than that, it’s impossible to regulate walking traffic.
There’s absolutely a generally understood etiquette to walking on a sidewalk. The thing that bugs me most about people who refuse to follow it or even acknowledge it exists is they themselves totally benefit from everybody doing it. Because it makes the flow of foot traffic on the sidewalk faster. It’s like the people who don’t vaccinate. They benefit from everybody else vaccinating but they refuse to do it themselves.
I love snow, but that picture sums up why I wish it would go away a day or two after a storm. I think the trash strewn everywhere makes it so much worse.
Park Slope sidewalk etiquette??? Paging *rob*! Come in *rob*!
