crazypants- you may want to duck behind that naked bicyclist 🙂
“much as Critical Mass is usually at rush hour to piss of drivers and driving culture,”
If a family member was in an ambulance (or needed one) that was stuck in traffic b/c of some Critical Mass bullshit I’d be more than pissed off.
Insults are part and parcel of most political protests, so I see nothing “extra” offensive in staging the protest on the Sabbath (their Sabbath?)
The point IS to piss off the opposition, much as Critical Mass is usually at rush hour to piss of drivers and driving culture, or those pesky colored kids annoyed a lot of segregationists by their diner sit-ins, and let’s not forget those hurtful giant puppets of the G8-20 protestors.
Pre-emptive note – No, I am not equating the Bike Path fight with 60’s Civil Rights struggle.
It’s even more important. (heh)
So, denton, you’re saying the bikers want to do this while the Hasids all in temple so that they don’t actually have to bike naked in front of them? Kind of an unseen protest- aha! 🙂
“I know this will not be a popular post, but there it is.”
MM, see Mopar’s post, there is a long history of nude and semi-nude activism in the cycling community as a whole. I would hope to see it in that context.
BG, what’s the problem? If it’s Saturday, they’ll all be in temple, so what’s to offend?
Plenty of us are not zealots but Saturday is still the Sabbath and the protestors know that the Hasids consider it a holy day so this is a religious insult, not just a political protest.
re: the Saturday comment:
Or, perhaps, some of the protestors are Jewish people who aren’t zealots.
I’m with you MM.
A topless protest is silly and divisive and rude to the Hasidim and will just make us bikers in general seem disrespectful.
Hi everybody. Just got back from Japan.
Topless bike rides through Williamsburgh??? Now I know I’m really back in NYC!!!
