I could be wrong but I don’t think the $15,000 housing subsidy for teachers will go very far in today’s market. Don’t think it will provide a strong enough incentive/lure. I much prefer the ‘Teacher Next Door’ and ‘Officer Next Door ‘ lottery programs that HUD used to lure teachers and officers to buy distressed properties in ‘distressed urban communities’. But from what I can tell, that program went bye bye in 2001 when ‘irrational exuberance’ entered the hud foreclosure auction market.
The $15K is a good start but it seems like it would barely cover the 5-10% downpayment on a studio nowadays.
