7 Greene Avenue, near Fulton Street, Fort Greene; No Phone
“A white-walled hall with sun streaming in from cantilevered windows, 7’s a breezy bar-staurant tucked directly behind the Lafayette C stop and helmed by a resto vet junta: a former Frankie’s GM/sommelier, a former Perry Street chef, plus the designer behind all of Weather Up… Grub-wise, 7’s plating French-American-ish (roasted chicken w/ carrot puree; grilled cod w/ New Zealand cockles; hangar steak w/ kimchi perogies…), all of which can be had for one Jackson and under (with generous tip, a Jackson Five).” [Thrillist]

“My first meal was a through-and-through pleasure. I’m hard pressed to name a favorite among three beguiling salads I tried, one with strands of summer squash and red pepper ($7), another with butter lettuce, grapefruit and curried almonds ($7), and a third with lamb, watermelon and feta ($9)…But a dinner weeks later was a through-and-through disappointment…Off night or unpromising evolution?” [NY Times]

Coming Soon: Atomic Wings Outpost
321 Ninth Street (at Fifth Avenue); in the old Delices de Paris space
“A tipster emails with word of the new Atomic Wings outpost, noting that ‘they are putting an Atomic Wings on 9th Street, b/n 5th and 6th ave in park slope- next to the HSBC, in the space that was formerly a really crappy faux-french pastry shop that consolidated with its sister store, up next to Smiling Pizza.'” [Gowanus Lounge]

The Highlights of Metomix’s Park Slope Burger Battle
Thoughts on Brooklyn Flipsters: “The beef flavor was fantastic, but my medium-rare burger was more medium-well and there was too much gristle in the mix.”
Thoughts on Corner Burger: “I chatted with one of the owners while waiting for my food and she was so nice it pained me to hear that they get their meat from Costco… The burger arrived and it was far too finely ground and completely devoid of flavor or seasoning.”
Thoughts on Bonnie’s Grill: “The burger was loosely ground, loosely packed and cooked on a blazing-hot grill top. As a result, this burger melts in your mouth… In the end, it’s eight years of experience that have kept this Park Slope staple on top.”

Watch Your Back at China City
903 Myrtle Avenue, Bedford-Stuyvesant
“A hotheaded chef at China City restaurant in Brooklyn has been charged with dousing two women with scalding cooking oil after they complained about bad take-out food… [Chef] Jhing was charged with assault, menacing, harassment and criminal possession of a weapon – the oil.” [NY Post]

  1. TJs will NOT have a wine store in Brooklyn. That is confirmed. The reason is they can only have one TJ wine shop in any given retail region, less they would be competition against the Manhattan TJs wine store. Its a TJs company wide corporate policy.

  2. Turks and Frogs moving in next to Trader Joe’s? I was hoping there would be a Trader Joe’s wine shop next to Trader Joe’s. Sorry I’m sort of off-topic, but does anyone know if a TJ’s wine shop will be attached or nearby the new Brooklyn store?

  3. I went to Corner Burger once, and that will be my only time. The burgers were adequate, the fries were disappointing, and everything was way overpriced.

Is this place run by the same folks who ran the short-lived Mediterra in the same spot? It too suffered from overpricing and mediocrity.
