Wednesday Food & Drink Round-Up
So, here’s an awesome tip from an Eater reader: “Here’s a shot of what will someday be a beer garden with a retractable roof. Pretty sure it’s owned by the guys in Astoria who have The Bohemian Hall and Beer Garden. On the corner of North Third and Berry, across from The Levee.” Rad. [Eater]…

“Most cocktails hover around the $6 mark, a rare feat, especially when you can order up a Sazerac, one of our favorite cocktails, and not just some syrupy vodka stained mess with lots of ice. Even the special of the day, normally a dumping ground for cheap spirits and whatever else is left around, was well put together and a steal for $4. During happy hour those drinks get even cheaper, as all drafts and well drinks go for $3.” [Gothamist]
After the jump: Stir-fry in Sunset Park and Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory opens in Greenpoint.
Lucky Eight
5204 Eighth Avenue, Sunset Park, Brooklyn; (718) 851-8862
“Pride of Lucky Eight, a $14.95 stir-fry, is the signature dish. It comes to the table, sumptuously oily, in a heaping green tangle: some kind of reedy, oniony chives shot through with the white, the green and the bulb end of scallions all separate. Perfectly julienned stalks of Chinese celery add crunch. Rehydrated shiitake mushrooms add a meaty sweetness, slices of meaty abalone a little chew. Bits of baby squid create textural intrigue, and shreds of dried scallop add a depth that’s hard to pinpoint but easy to appreciate.” [NY Times]
Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory
97 Commercial St., at Manhattan St., Greenpoint
“The new digs were most recently a Caribbean restaurant called Bleu Drawes, and before that a glass factory, and the remote location, abutting Newtown Creek, has the same peripheral, cinematic feel as his East River flagship… For now, he’s serving his eight signature flavors, all made on premises and available in banana splits, shakes, and sundaes, and hopes to install a sidewalk crêpe cart by the end of the summer.” [NY Magazine]
