In Ditmas Park: Momos Alfresco
1510 Cortelyou Road (near Marlborough Road), Ditmas Park; (718) 282-3750
“Top Café Tibet, which opened in Ditmas Park this summer, has to have one of the coolest locations in the city. It’s perched directly above some exposed outdoor train tracks — but that hasn’t stopped the owners from turning its front patio, so small it can accommodate only two tables, into a shady, breezy retreat festooned with fake flowers. The view you see here is from the Cortelyou Road subway station (pardon the bars).” [Grub Street]
Rave Review for Eton‘s Dumplings
205 Sackett Street (at Henry Street), Carroll Gardens
“Eton is a dumpling shack that is serving up five fresh, hot dumplings per order–in a variety of flavors–for a mere $3.50. Did I mention these dumplings are huge? And tasty? And that the restaurant is open until 11:30pm? It’s like I’ve died and gone to a more accessible version of Chinatown.” [A Brooklyn Life]
Cocotte Space Renovation Update
337 Fifth Avenue (at 4th Street), Park Slope
“Work on the former Cocotte, which is slated to become an Italian restaurant, is well underway… The sign that was in the window proclaiming it an Italian place, however, is gone.” [Gowanus Lounge]
After the jump: House of Pizza and Calzone gets a makeover; La Bouillabaisse reopens in Red Hook, where to eat at the West Indian American Day Carnival, a new fro-yo joint on Fulton, and Chef Sam Mason of Tailor is crossing the river for a Williamsburg BBQ tonight…
House of Pizza and Calzone Gets a Makeover
132 Union Street, between Columbia and Hicks Street
“One of the most beloved slice joints in all of Brooklyn—the House of Pizza and Calzone on Union Street between Hicks and Columbia—is currently undergoing a complete redo… The owner, sitting outside, said he wished the design to be a surprise. He confirmed, however, that the House would have a new awning—sad news for those how loved the cheesy, grimy, old red-green-and-white one, with its hand-painted Italian chef holding a steaming pie.” [Lost City]
La Bouillabaisse Reopens in Red Hook
4446 Beard St at Dwight St, Red Hook
“The first Bouillabaisse was a neighborhood pioneer when chef Neil Ganic opened the restaurant on Atlantic Avenue in the ’90s; it later briefly occupied a space on Union Street. Now, Ganic reprises the original menu in Red Hook, next door to his new bar, Annabelle’s. Dishes like a poached-pearandblue-cheese salad have been resurrected, along with the eponymous stew—scallops, shrimp, lobster and mussels in saffron broth.” [Time Out New York] Note: We were at Annabelle’s Saturday night, and this place didn’t seem to be open yet. Anybody know if they’re serving food yet?
Quick Bites
Planning an eating extravaganza for Monday’s West Indian American Day Carnival? Check out the Times for a comprehensive list of restaurants and bakeries… Clinton Hill Blog spotted a new fro-yo joint called Silver Spoon in construction on Fulton… And Chef Sam Mason of Tailor is crossing the river for a BBQ at Hope Lounge tonight, but this is also a DJ event, so if you’re not into loud music and skinny jeans, this may not be your kinda scene!
The frozen yogurt spot is open and has been about a week now. This place is owned by the Asian woman who also owns the bodega/fruit veggie stand on Greene and Cumberland, the Japanese restaurant on Greene and Fulton with the orange and brown awning, the new gourmet shop on Fulton off South Oxford with the same awning, the nail salon and spa on Fulton St across from the frozen yogurt spot.
