Coming Soon: Beer Table
427 7th Avenue (between 14th & 15th Streets), Park Slope
They’re already debating about this new bar’s decor on Chowhound, but it’s not entirely clear whether the place (located in the old Tost space) is open to the public yet. According to their website, “Beer Table is an intimate drinking and eating room that serves a daily selection of rare and special beers paired with an unusual assortment of snacks, preserved foods, and small meals.”
Finally Open: Radegast Hall
113 North 3rd Street, Williamsburg; (718) 963-3973
“So… the St. Paulie Girl outfits the (female) servers and waitresses have to wear is a little over the top, as is the constant piping in of the german/eastern euro madderhorn soundtrack. It’s a cross between a Old Homestead and Medieval Times. Beer’s good, but it’s a ‘one beer, once in awhile, when your friend from out of town is visiting’, kind of place.” [Eater] Another take: “If the sheer ambition of the place, with its retractable roof beer garden and stunning, crazy-polygon of an oak bar doesn’t impress, one drink should. Drafts come in two sizes: cartoon-big, and ‘I can’t believe this is the small.’ A liter of Weihenstephaner Dunkel Weisse later, and the beer garden, which will be heated by this weekend, gets toasty enough to sit in.” [Brooklyn Based]
Coming in ’08: Dram
177 South Fourth Street near Driggs, Williamsburg
“Soon after the New Year, the inviting little café formerly known as Chickenbone will be reborn as Dram. So named for the unit of measurement in the apothecaries’ system, the south Williamsburg bar will focus on specialty pre-prohibition cocktails made with all-fresh ingredients.” [Gothamist]
After the jump: Get Fresh brings semi-prepared foods to Park Slope and rumors fly about the old Porchetta space on Smith Street…
Now Open: Get Fresh
370 Fifth Avenue (Fifth Street), Park Slope; (718) 360-8469
“Get Fresh in Brooklyn is the latest shop in the city to offer all the ingredients for a meal — sliced, seasoned and packaged together. Kelley Roy and Caroll Lee, the owners, sell mostly raw components; the customer does only the final cooking, like searing pork chops and then baking them with the apples and cider glaze they come with.” [NY Times]
What’s Next for 241 Smith?
Rumors are flying about potential occupants of the old Banania/Porchetta/Carniceria space at Smith and Douglass. One neighborhood tipster told Eater that Saul Bolton, chef/owner of Saul Restaurant, bought the place, but Bolton quickly denied that claim. In the comments, somebody reported seeing the chef from the West Village’s August scoping out the space. Any other gossip to add to the rumor mill?
beer table is not open to the public yet – no liquor license yet, but I did go to a praivate party there. The owners were there – nice peoplel, nice vibe. Some very cool beers – the also had great cheese and charcuterie and the guy makes a bunch of different cool pickled things. They are open to doing private events, I think, until the liquor lic. comes thru – I didn’t ask when that would be.
I took a trip to Austria recently. Radegast reminds me of some of the places I ate in. I put some of my Austrian food and restaurant photos together here:

I particularly like the use of wood as a decor element.
GetFreshNYC is fantastic! I stopped by on Sunday and picked up a few things. Incredible good vibe in the store, I thought.
The food is super fresh and they will take back all the packaging to have it recycled OR you can give it to the delivery guy and he’ll take it back for you!!
Radegast Hall is fantastic. It’s pretty amazing looking.
Saul restaurant is great. 241 Smith could turn out to be great as well. I’ll certainly give it a shot.
