Sunset Park Specialties
This week’s $25 and Under column is dedicated to those who don’t know what to eat for lunch on the weekends, now that the Red Hook ballfields have closed for the season. The Times heads to 5th Avenue in Sunset Park for some al pastor tacos from Matamoros, fresh corn from Epocas, tortas at Rico’s, and carnitas at Plaza Xochimilco.
The Gelato of Fro-Yo Is Coming to Brooklyn
“Yesterday we reported that Yoláto is poised to infiltrate the Empire State Building and other strategic locations around the city. Now none other than founder Donald Park tells us that he’s aiming for a minimum of fifteen to twenty outlets in the next year, including at least one Downtown Brooklyn outlet.” [Grub Street]
After the jump: Gridskipper’s top 8 Brooklyn Bed & Breakfasts and a Chowhounder gives a shout-out to a South Slope wine bar…
The Best Brooklyn Bed & Breakfasts
Gridskipper rates the top 8, with Bed-Stuy’s Akwaaba Mansion in the lead: “This place is fit for the most glamorous Brooklyn visitors. Rooms start at $160 a night.”
A Chowhound Cheer for Vin Rouge
629 Fifth Avenue, between 17th and 18th Streets, Park Slope
“Not much food to speak of — just cheese, charcuterie etc, though the bartender said they are going to have fondue soon… They have tons of interesting wines by the glass (prob like 30 or 40 choices) and I think they change them often. The bartender I met on my 2 occasions there was very knowledgeable and when we got to chatting offered us tastes of some other wines he thought we might like. Just mentioning it here because I like it there and want it to stay open!” [Chowhound]

Good news about gelato coming to downtown Brooklyn. I live near Atlantic Ave in BK Heights and wont eat Tasti D-Lite (on Court St, or elsewhere), and Blue Pig’s yogurt isn’t anything special, cant wait.
