Brawta Cafe
347 Atlantic Avenue, Boerum Hill
“Feds have closed down Jamaican restaurant Brawta on Hoyt Street and Atlantic Avenue. Sayeth a sad reader, ‘This was one of my favorite Jamaican restaurants. it’s on Hoyt and Atlantic in Boerum Hill Brooklyn. In any case, I walked by today and took a double take: 2 federal agents were at the door and a big neon colored sign that said SEIZED was on the window. I got a closer look and it said for failure to pay their taxes! Bummer….'” [Eater]

Fette Sau
354 Metropolitan Ave, 718-963-3404, Williamsburg
“The ten taps stay completely local with suds from Heavyweight, Greenpoint, Brooklyn, Sixpoint, and Kelso (Heavyweight and Greenpoint have made exclusive draughts just for Fette Sau), and all come available in half-pint, pint, quart, half-gallon, and the only-heard-of-in-fairy-tales gallon. If beer’s not your prime mover, Fette steps up with a knee-buckling assortment of American bourbons that will take you across the Mason Dixon and back, with everything from the staple Knob Creek to the not-so-staple 21-year Black Maple Hill Rye.” [The L Magazine]

After the jump: New sushi spot in the slope and Flatbush Farm gets some lovin’…

Mura
369 5th Ave., Park Slope, (718) 965-1288
“Just tried it out last night and really liked it. Had the Park Slope roll (shrimp tempura and avocado topped with spicy tuna), which was surprisingly excellent, as was the sashimi deluxe that my gf got. I had the sushi deluxe, which was also really good and very generous, but not as good as the sashimi. Good prices, friendly service and a nice atmosphere. I’ll definitely be back.” [jdmetz on Chowhound]

Flatbush Farm
76 St. Marks Ave. @ 6th Ave., 718.622.3276
“I had rabbit ragout with pappardelle — restrained and elegant, ribbons of fresh pasta in a very light, brothy ragout with slivers of zucchini, sun-dried tomato and fresh parsley. Sprightly spring simplicity. Winnie’s pulled pork was sweet and well-spiced, with a side of cider vinegar splashed collards. Crisp and tender biscuit halves looked so golden and beautiful in the candlelight that I wanted to make love to them.” [Eat Drink One Woman]

  1. that’s sad. i liked brawta, and even though it was never full it seemed like there was a steady stream of customers, unlike places like Sapodilla (which I also enjoy) that seem perpetually empty. I hope they are able to reopen.

  2. It seems like she didn’t pay a former staffer who called in the T.V. news guy to get her money; she paid it in front of the camera on the news. That was not the reason for the closing but it seems like her rent and payroll were not obligations.
