McCarren Park Pool Charette
Today, Community Board 1, The Open Space Alliance, and Parks & Recreation host an open public design and planning charette for McCarren Park Pool improvements. After learning about the project’s schedule and budget considerations, members of the audience will break into small groups, with each table assisted by two architectural professionals to act as facilitators. Materials will be provided. Designs must allow for swimming and year-round use, while preserving and reusing the existing buildings. The recommendations will be synthesized by the project architects and presented at a follow-up community meeting. Wednesday, 5:00 p.m. & 7:00 p.m. (two sessions). Swinging 60’s Senior Citizen Center, 211 Ainslie Street (corner of Manhattan Avenue).

City Council’s Housing and Buildings Committee Hearing
The City Council’s Housing and Buildings Committee will take public testimony on Int. 578 today, Wednesday, June 13, at 10 a.m. in City’s Hall’s Council Chamber. The 181 page bill would remove many of the fire protections built into the City’s Building Code such as requiring second exits from buildings and fireproof walls between buildings. The Mayor’s stated reason for introducing the bill is to reduce housing construction costs, allowing the private sector to build affordable housing more easily.
