8:37’s experience reminds me of the time I saw Yo La Tengo at Celebrate Brooklyn. A group of four, oh what the heck, let’s call them hipsters, talked through the entire concert about how YLT was their favorite band, other YLT concerts they had been too, how they planned to build interest for their own band the same way that YLT did….
Who talks through a concert of their favorite band? Wouldn’t you want to show your favorite band more respect than that? Wouldn’t you want other listeners to discover your favorite band? Even if motivated solely by self-interest, wouldn’t you want to hear your favorite band?
Okay, I feel better now. As for June 19, I’ll be at KeySpan.
8:37 – In my experience that happens if you sit in the middle or back. Folks who get there early to picnic or save good seats are into it, quiet and respectful of their neighbors.
10:15 – Long meadow. From the PP site:
The Long Meadow is accessible from almost anywhere in the Park, with the main entrances being Grand Army Plaza, Bartel-Pritchard Circle, and any entrance along Prospect Park West, such as Third Street or Ninth Street. It is also along the Blue Trail.
This concert and the philharmonic next month are not at the bandshell. They’re inside the park on the baseball/sports fields. Enter the park at 9th street & PPW, walk across the interior road and you’ll be there.
Where in Prospect Park is the concert? Just moved to Brooklyn and would love to go, but don’t know where – it’s a big park!
Well, give a concert in Prospect Park a shot… maybe you won’t have all the same hassles that you experienced in
Central Park! 🙂
The last time I attended a free concert in Central Park, all the people I was sitting near talked through the entire concert.
They were on their cell phones, or having conversations with their friends (that had nothing to do with the music).
It totally spoiled my experience, and I have not attended a free concert since.
