As much as I admire Jackie Robinson, after using that road to commute to work in Queens for 24 years I have trouble calling it anything other than the Interboro. Trouble is, nobody knows what I’m talking about when I do that 🙁
The only renaming that actually caught on is the Jackie Robinson Parkway, but everyone likes Jackie Robinson.
The west side highway was renamed in 1999- almost 13 years later and almost everyone still calls it the west side highway. At least Joe DiMaggio was cool -but Hugh Carey??- I’m not calling the Brooklyn-Battery Tunnel the Hugh Carey Tunnel because all I can think of when I say it is that is Drew Carey lol- and when you really think of it- the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel just makes sense. First Bloomberg throws Cathie Black at us and now this shit?? He’s lost his damn mind.
I had no idea that either of those two had been renamed. Christ, the cabbies and car service drivers (especially) here are incompetent enough without confusing them even more so.
Bloomberg is such a Dick. Renaming bridges and tunnels is such a waste of time and money, especially when nobody is ever going to call it by it’s new name. Has anyone honestly ever referred to the West Side Highway as the Joe DiMaggio Highway (did anyone even know that it was renamed?) or the Triborough Bridge as the RFK Bridge? I think we should rename the Staten Island Dump after Bloomberg- at least that name fits.

stupid renaming…waste of money. Add a name if you need to like they do with some streets(and even that is stupid). At least wait until the geezer drops dead first.
