The MTA needs to be purged and restructured. They’ve been allowed to run amok way too long. Mismanagement from top to bottom.
The bodega shooting on Utica was between Eastern Pkway and Empire Blvd, near the corner of President Street; I wouldn’t call that Flatbush (what, then, Crown Heights?). The Times is often geographically impaired when it comes to Brooklyn coverage. At least they didn’t call it Kensington; for awhile there, they were calling everything Kensington from Windsor Terrace to, um, approximately Breezy Point.
Though people typically focus on Compstat and the culture it represents — which is fine, per se — it has also been shown that the city’s renaissance was largely fueled by improved subways, i.e., their performance, reliability and safety.
Forget real estate and the recession for a moment, if you would. If the MTA and Albany continue to shy away from their responsibilities, the quality of life in this city will most definitely change for the worse.
