Way back in August, we posted about a wine bar and epicerie that was set to open on the corner of Union and Hoyt in October. For a few months, it appeared that the space was being renovated, but then it started looking vacant again. October came and went and the place never materialized. The corner seems like it would be a good location for a business, especially as Union Street becomes more of a pedestrian thoroughfare between Carroll Gardens and Park Slope does anybody know what’s going on? Could it be that they couldn’t get a liquor license, since they’re across the street from a school and around the corner from a church?
New Wine Bar Set to Open This Fall [Brooklyn Record]
I live upstairs. I can confirm that work did stop for awhile but in the last two weeks it has picked up again. They are mostly doing interior work at the moment so it might not be obvious from outside. I’d be happy to photograph the large amount of dust in the hallway as evidence. 😉
Initially, there was a delay in obtaining a liquor liscense. However, that was aquired in January. Also, after speaking to the owner about this (same owner as Bagels by the Park), he said he was busy with his newborn and construction was halted. lately I didn’t any kind of activity there though.. so I’m assuming he has just been concentrating all of his efforts on his newly opened Mexican restaurant in Park Slope. Sigh… oh well, maybe someday soon!
Last I spoke to him he said it was coming along nicely though!
they rehung that sign a few weeks ago … maybe things were just delayed?
