The Upstate Brooklyn
And here we thought Portland was the new Brooklyn! It turns out that an upstate town called Rosendale is the new Brooklyn. “This depressed former cement manufacturing town of 6,400 has lately had a steady influx of creative freelancers with 917, 718 and 646 area-code cellphones,” writes the New York Times this morning. “Some hop…

The average house price of $201,797 clearly doesn’t hurt either.

Is there a kickball league there?
Pete, you were right! I actually have been looking at real estate in Rosendale. Nothing catching my eye yet.
“If you move upstate, bring your own money, and bring your own friends.””
SO TRUE! that’s exactly what happened (in Hudson) Locals vs. city expats, very segregated there. Alot of animosity.
etson, that’s leafy country – more than enough to absorb the carbon
Aren’t all those long distance commuters concerned about increasing their carbon footprints?
(actually I’m rather jealous of those that moved here and don’t have to commute, in summer at least).
ACK cord
I used to go to B&B’s around there, and hike in the Catskills. Nice area. High Falls, Stone Ridge. etc. There’s another charming village not too far away, called Woodstock. Very artsy, aging hippie type of place. But don’t tell too many people. One friend of mine says: “If you move upstate, bring your own money, and bring your own friends.”
Trivia question: how do locals pronounce ‘Accord’?
agree w/ you too, rob.
yawn city.
thousands? have you been counting them as part of your census job?
