luger's
rats
The strangest things pop up in the comments sections of posts. Take the discussion on Tuesday of the new development at 324 Bedford. It’s humming along with the standard mix of armchair criticism and rumor-mongering when someone named Anonymous drops this gem:

Did you guys know that when Peter Luger was finally convinced by some needling health inspector to exterminate, its population of rats dispersed into the surrounding neighborhood, infesting everyone’s homes with the rodents. I just found this out from our structural engineer, who’d worked with the owners of Peter Luger back in the rat days.

Now you’ve got our attention. We’re curious to know when this extermination occurred and whether any local homeowners can confirm this spill-over effect.

  1. “Improvement” is a relative term when you still have rats and mice ….

Seems that you can have rodent infestation and still pass inspection, so that probably tells you something about how common it is in the average eatery.

  2. even better is that they got 58 for too warm cold food and too hot cold food (and associated thermometer violations) with no vermin…but 16 with vermin…

I know nothing about food sanitation but not wearing a hairnet is obviously a more heinous sin than having a large rodent serving you your dinner…

  3. Rats only “move” when overpopulation occurs. Exterminating them will not produce such action.
It is a bit more difficult for a resturant to deal with considering that just posioning them leads to that horribble sweet nauseting stench of decay – while they rot under the floor boards or within the walls – Luger’s may be able to cover the stench with the smell of burning meat though.

If there is “spill over” – now it is your turn to figure out how to rid yourself of them and quit blaming/whining about the neighbors, unless they do nothing and the migration is from overpopulation.
Welcome to Los Sures! I have been dealing with Southside rats since 1985,
    what fun it is!

  4. The lady who owns the place must be incredibly cheap. They’re taking in truck loads of CASH ONLY (to make it easier to cheat on their taxes) and still not hiring enough cleaners and exterminators. Incredible!

Then again, I’ve used to rent a space in Manhattan to an extraordinarily successful restaurant (packed all day long) for a below market rent and had to go to court every few months to collect the rent.

Unfortunately, a lot of scumbags end up in the restaurant business. You should have seen the basement storage room my tenant had. He’s leave open containers of suace in the floor as if he were intentionally feeding the vermin.

I won’t name the place, but I’m sure many of you ate there and loved it.
