It’s entirely possible that we are horribly behind the times given our extensive summer travels, but we only just noticed this sign for a Subway sandwich shop hanging in front of the defunct deli at 713 Fulton Street. Anyone know how long it’s been there? GMAP

  1. I used to think Subway was a slightly better fast-food option than a burger joint (and it IS certainly less fatty, mainly because the sandwich has three tiny pieces of “meat” on it and the rest is lettuce and bread. But one day, I saw a box of Subway “ham” being delivered, and made the mistake of trying to read the ingredient list. Their meat is so processed, pressed, formed, and shot full of weirdness that I have never eaten there since. If you’re willing to trust industrial fast-food corporations to grind up god knows what and shape it to look like food—and sell it to you for 37 cents, yet still be able to make a profit on it—that’s your biz. Scares the pants offa me.

  2. I think that bread smell is fake, like the cheap boulangries in the malls and train stations in France. I actually knew someone when I lived there who worked for the company that sold those smells and the machines that sprayed them into the air (actually, you could also lease the machines).
