On Friday, Williamsburgers who care about where their food comes from will have a new place to shop. A new space that harkens back to a small-town general store will open under the banner of Urban Rustic at 236 North 12th Street. The organic and sustainably-produced food (cheese, meat, vegetables, coffee and prepared foods) will be supplemented by in-store lectures and workshops all meant to create a sense of community around the 2,600-square-foot store. All the new condo owners on Bayard Street must be psyched.

  1. I’ve been looking forward to the opening for a while now since I live around the block. Upon running out for some emergency milk this morning all I can say is these people have some huge balls. They are charging $4.50 (+$1 deposit) for a bottle of milk that costs $2 from the farmers market. I understand a certain amount of markup will happen when you buy from someone like this, but come on thats insane!

  2. i have nothing but respect for these guys at urban rustic. it looks like they have a great product and are sincere in their efforts to improve the neighborhood and offer a unique product. i live in the area and that is exactly what we needed – now we won’t be running to bedford to buy crappy overpriced bodega groceries. hopefully the place won’t become too crowded it’s got a great location and it was a no brainer to put a market/cafe there.

to all the naysayers on this site you are absolutely pathetic. wallow in your negativity and hatred all you want – and enjoy dropping four bucks for a can of pringles in some roach-infested deli as you stumble home to your crapball rental.

christ it’s not like they put a starbucks in there, assholes.

  3. “This neighborhood is in the continuing process of getting destroyed by yuppies.”

YES! Damn them and their fresh produce!

Don’t they know the definition of a true unspoilt neighborhood means buying crappy veggies at a shady bodega?!?
