Which biz will best satisfy the insatiable cravings of Cobble Hill residents? In one corner we have Sweet Melissa, which, per A Brooklyn Life, is expanding its operations on Court near Butler to include the next-door storefront. The new space (top photo), which is supposed to open in the next month, will serve beer and the backyard garden will run the length of both buildings. In the other corner—and directly across the street—we have a young upstart in the neighborhood, The Chocolate Room. The Room’s second location after Park Slope has been on tap for a long time now, but serious construction is finally getting under way inside the space (bottom photo). According to the contractor on the job, Chocolate Room’s owner is hoping to have it up and running within the next few weeks. Sugar rush to the finish line on these two, it seems.
Sweet Melissa Expanding [A Brooklyn Life]

Sweet Melissa was great when it first opened on Court. Once she had made it, became successful, and started expanding, then things dropped off. I rarely go there now.
The Chocolate Room Cupcakes are the BEST!!! I’m addicted and I live no where near them…but I have to have them. I schlep to Park Slope just for the Cupcakes.
a sorryi but i tried sweet melissa’s when it first opened in park slope and was totally disappointed. we ordered some pastry concoction NOT fresh at all. Sorry – but give me Baked in Red Hook any day – nice servers and delicious desserts not to mention – great coffe
*and no i am not the owner or a worker at baked*
I agree that the service at the original Sweet Melissa is not good of late. The people behind the counter have attitude. I’m glad the Chocolate Room is opening across the street. Sweet Melissa needs some competition.
Sweet Melissa just isn’t what it used to be. The service used to be good and friendly. Unfortunately, the last few times I’ve been there, friendly service certainly was absent. I’d check out One Girl Cookie. Very good desserts and service.
Sweet Melissa is too small as it is. If you actually order food, the tables are too small to put it on and people are packed in tightly so the servers can’t get through. A little more elbow room is great.
I love chocolate, but the chocolate room sends me into a diabetic shock. Too rich and too pricey. In my book, a little good chocolate goes a long way.
As the Don of the Spaghetti family, which as most of the readers know, is one of the five families controlling New York’s Stroller Mafia, I expect that there will be parking for bugaboos, maclarens and other four-wheel baby transporters!
I’m still a fan of One Girl Cookies over on Smith and Dean. Mmmm….
Sweet!
Get it? Funny, right? Right?
