Streetlevel: South Slope Gets a New Restaurant
The folks at Ellis, a new bar/restaurant at 627 5th Avenue and 17th Street in the South Slope, sent us this description of their impending eatery: “The fare is Southwestern Tapas. It’s delicious and often adventurous (think rattlesnake skewers). The drinks (and drink specials) are tough to beat and the space is large and inviting.”…

I remember when the only reason to go down to that part of the neighborhood was buttermilk.
How things have changed.
I’d go for a rattlesnake skewer. Is that for real? I’ve never tried any reptile before.
Could not agree with you more, JasonB.
People on this site are increasingly negative, judgemental and downright rude.
I plan to go check out this place AND THEN decide if I like it or not.
I don’t think people realize how many folks checking out Brooklyn read this site for information first. I hope to God they don’t read the comments. If I were thinking about buying in Brooklyn and read this site, I’d want to run for the hills.
And I’ve heard many people say that exact same thing. They think the people here are wretched hate mongers.
Luckily, most people here are lovely in person, but you certainly would not know it by these threads.
JasonB, it’s just you.
Looks like a good bar to me – will definitely give it a try.
Is it me or is this website becoming more and more depressing – without any of the above even trying this new bar they are already complaining about the description of its ‘location’, the food, the logo, etc etc.
Why don’t you all either support someone trying something new or just piss off to the suburbs.
We got enough Mexican food, or “southwest” over here.
French food, please. Or seafood. Or Thai.
Why are there no leaves on the tree out front?
offthegrid – yep – you hit the nail on the head there. Either that, or a realtors.
I agree with offthegrid that the name and logo seem off the mark. “Classy” menswear sprang to my mind as well.
Anyhoo, that part of South Slope (Greenwood Heights, whatever ya call it) just keeps getting more interesting food/drink-wise. Not $9 gin & tonic interesting though, as greeenwood points out.
That’s the old Aaron’s (or was it Aron’s) menswear store, isn’t it?
