Chef Michael Psilakis, of Kefi and Anthos in Manhattan, just got a liquor license for the space on the corner of North 10th Street and Driggs. According to the New York Post, “The chef has not signed a lease on the space and even if he does, he remains unsure of the concept of the business. So far, Psilakis is using the name Biergarten williamsburg LLC, for the liquor license application, but this would not be the name of the restaurant.” With Radegast in walking distance, is this neighborhood in need of another biergarten? “Where’s the garden? I’m a bit confused how these places are popping up calling themselves beer gardens when they have little or no outdoor space. They’re bars (AKA “Stubbe” or “Lokal” in German)…They’re not even beer halls for goodness sake.”

What was presented to CB1 was a split restaurant, neither of which was a beer garden. One half is to be Greek, but I can’t remember the second half. Total occupancy is something like 400 covers, with a 35-seat bar.
Liberty Valance & Blinds has always been one of my favorite signs. I’m kind of surprised that there isn’t a window treatment store with this name in every town.
it’s so pretty and inviting!
*rob*
it’s also in walking distance of the new outpost of loreley (when does that open?)
This guy makes some seriously good Greek food.
i love greek food but agree with dirty – beer sells.
This is gonna be quite expensive. He’s gonna totally have to gut that and build it out. It’s a HUGE space.
Considering how crowded Radegast and Berry Park are on a regular basis, this place shouldn’t worry about having thirsty patrons – oh and the blog coverage won’t hurt either due to the high profile chef.
Ugh…how about a biergarden in Gowanus? Anyone? There are more abandoned/for sale buildings there than anywhere.
