A hookah lounge and head shop opened a few weeks ago in the space on 7th Avenue between 14th and 15th streets that used to house the women’s boutique Lily. The sole Yelper who has tried the place out gives a mixed review.

  1. what IJ says…

I also think this is a thinly disguised way to get kids hooked on junk. Da kid started going to one of these holes on the LES and i put a lot of heat on her to remind her that tobacco is an extraordinarily nasty and addictive drug. I bet if someone digs deep enuf they’ll find some corporate money from the cig pushers behind these.

  2. “what’s the point of smoking from a hookah if it aint even gonna get your high?”

It’s a tobacco. Not pot or crack, geez.
Why do people smoke cigarettes or cigars? It doesn’t get them high.
For some, smoking a hookah is relaxing and a social activity.

  3. @rob– Have some balls & just ask.

Some spots (especially the less glitzy one’s ie;LES) will look the other way, long as you’re not behaving like a dick.

This joints, a couple of blocks away- I’ll monger tonight.

  4. what’s the point of smoking from a hookah if it aint even gonna get your high? sounds pointless and pretentious to me.
i went to a hookah bar on the LES once and felt ripped off because there is no high associated with smoking from these things! do some people bring their own real marijuana and stuff to these places?

  5. Benson, I found it odd that this location is also a ‘head shop’.
The hookah ‘lounge’ I go to is tables and chairs (cause they also serve some mid-east appetizers and loungy type chairs.
You don’t have to smoke (I rarely do) and go to play the games. Backgammon! They also have dominos, cards, chess, checkers, a few others.
It’s not full of hipsters but the local Arabs of that nabe. Usually men 30-50 years of age.
