StreetLevel: Home Furnishings Store for the South Slope
The turnover-heavy stretch of 7th Avenue near 15th Street is getting another new shop: Word comes via Ideal Properties Group that a home furnishings store called Homebody is scheduled to open in the small space next to Vespa Salon in early November. The storefront was previously leased by the short-lived boutique Closet Couture. GMAP

I know that, girl! I was pointing out the ignorance of the encounter. Blotnicks!
Hey Denton and MM — not that it matters much, but the shoes are Manolo BLAHNIKS. LOL!
“There are many shuttered retail stores further south on 5th Avenue — 18th Street to 21st Street.”
Yes, but not when the local community may not want to/or be able to support higher end stores…though most folks want those storefront’s open…and with stuff they need. Another botanica they don’t.
“I’m impressed with the new stuff that’s been coming to 7th Avenue lately.”
Agreed, but I’d love to find out what is sustainable besides more eateries and kids shops…wait, those have all closed!
How about another nail salon or dry cleaners…harumph!
I have a friend who is a fashion queen, overhear a couple of girls in the subway talking about how they wanted Manolo Blotnick shoes like the ladies of Sex in the City. He was rolling on the floor.
Most of these small stores are operating by the skin of their teeth. If they make it, it’s a good sign for the economy on the whole. Good luck to all of them.

No men’s stuff.
Denton,
Where is that consignment shop you mention and do you know if it sells menswear as well?
I hope they do well, problem is down there there’s so little foot traffic. There’s a nice high-end consignment shop there, I bought Mrs D something, they had a ton of Manolo whatever they are shoes.
There are many shuttered retail stores further south on 5th Avenue — 18th Street to 21st Street. It’s a golden opportunity for a forward thinking capitalized entrepreneur since as of now, except for a bounty of coffee shops, it’s a relative desert for good shopping of any kind — provisions, clothing, home furnishings, restaurants, etc. etc. yet the critical mass is there. I wish everyday something would open up.
