Remember back in the salad days of 2007 when the word on the street was that Union Market was going to set up an outpost in the former Dollar Dream store at 633 Fulton Street in Fort Greene? ‘Twas not to be. After many months of renovation, the new facade was revealed last week, along with a large For Rent banner and a smaller one announcing one of the new tenants for the refurbished space: a Dollar Store. Sign o’ the times.

Right, so hundreds of people exiting the Harvey theater will get great use out of this dollar store? Might as well stick a bodega under Forte’ while you’re at it.
I’m pretty pro-dollar store. Isn’t everyone? I mean, aside from rich people who want everyone else out of their neighborhoods?
if there’s a heaven, for me, it would be a gigantic dollar store in the sky. im not kidding
*rob*
The facade used to be white brick with scattered dark bricks. I’m not sure this is an improvement.
Well, as a long-time resident of Fort Greene (“LTRFG”?), I have to say I missed having the 99-cent store there! In a pinch, I would saunter down Fulton for glasses, aluminum roasters and other disposable cooking tins, Sterno (TM), candy for my 90-year-old aunt, a bucket, helium balloons (99-cents was a lot better than $4.50 from other places), nightlight bulbs, etc., etc.
Sorry, Guys!
🙂
Ugh, why bother fixing up the facade for this!?
Bummer!
We had a near deal for the entire space for a food tenant but latter’s group took forever to decide so we lost space. Bummer.
my favorite motto on a dollar store sign i saw recently:
“every item 99 cents or higher!”
