Although it’s been open for nine months, pizza-cum-cappucino place Focaccino at the corner of Bedford and Lexington managed to fly under our radar until last week. Which is weird because the glass storefront does anything but blend in on this otherwise pretty bleak stretch of Bedford Avenue in Bedford Stuyvesant. Blog Eating for Brooklyn wrote a quasi review when it opened last October; a few folks have weighed in on Yelp too, generally for the positive. “There are not many new restaurants in this area, but this one does a good job in adding to the anglofication of Bed-Stuy–for better or worse,” wrote one reviewer. Any readers stopped by for a slice and a cup of joe? GMAP

  1. You know it is becoming annoying that many of you “anglo” folks as you describe yourself have so many issues in regards to when you move into a neighborhood. Its so sad that everything needs change for you bars, restaurants with really bad food, and very poor service also, and also the face of the neighborhood. It will be very interesting to see how after the Prospect Heights Neighborhoods(crown heights,bed-stuy etc)become homogenized what you will need next.Stop trying to change everything and learn how to live amongst the people who gave life to these communities when you weren’t there. Its such a sad thing to see.

  2. “Anglo” is generally a word to differentiate between English-speakers and Spanish-speakers in the US. Black people are Anglos. So the person who used “anglofication” here isn’t too sharp.

  3. There are several dining options in that area, Le Toukouleur is on the corner of Quincy, a block away, and Tiny Cup is around the corner on Nostrand and Clifton. Franklin ave. and Greene has Bistro Lafayette and Folukie is also a few blocks away on Bedford and Madison.

  4. i agree that a (not so) new pizza/sandwich place should not be considered anglofication!!! please, mr. b-that is really absurd, and makes me lose a large chunk of respect for you. i happen to live down the street-and while the sandwiches are tasty, the pizza i will skip in the future…not so good. the lemonade is delish, though.

  5. anglofication…jeez…can you be any more racist? A part of me worries that if this place wasn’t owned by white people, it would’ve never even been considered for discussion here. It’s more than a little scary really

  6. I’m sad to report that they made one of the worst pizzas I’ve ever had–the cheese was tasteless and likely not a dairy product. (If it’s supposed to be a vegan pizza, they should say something to that effect on the menu). The crust was poor and the toppings without flavor.

This was a number of months ago–if things have improved dramatically, please let us know.

I know that part of town could really use some dining options, so I hope they would improve. The owners seem really nice, but perhaps not super-experienced in the food biz.
