Good news for sweet-tooths in Dumbo: An old-time candy store is slated to open at 141 Front Street at the corner of Pearl. Alison Dewey signed a five-year lease for the 900-square-foot space, reported the Brooklyn Eagle. The store will feature throwback candies and gifts as well as offer private party space.

  1. button dots had a fancy name? i never knew. and i ate a lot of them. danish ribbons… interesting.

i ate a lot of pez too back in the day though i remember them tasting sort of like chewable flinstones vitamins. mmm candy. do they still sell snowflakes? (mini non-pareils)

also 900 sqft sounds kinda huge for a candy store, no? either they’re going to have to sell a boatload of candy or is it going to be super expensive like the loathesome dylan’s candy bar?

  2. “arent candy cigarettes illegal now? 🙁 that’s so lame.

I thought this was true also, but Wikipedia says:

In the United States a ban was considered in 1970 and again in 1991, but was not passed into federal law.[citation needed] The U.S. state of North Dakota enacted a ban on candy cigarettes from 1953 until 1967.[1] In Canada federal law prohibits candy cigarette branding that resembles real cigarette branding[2] and the territory of Nunavut has banned all products that resemble cigarettes.[3]

Also, Wiki relates that candy cigarettes are called “sugar fags” in the UK.
