Building-On-Bond-080608.jpg
After a long build-up (we first mentioned it last November), the new cafe/restaurant at 100 Bond that’s going with the name Building on Bond opened its doors yesterday and, judging from the large number of emails we received from readers, it’s getting a popular reception from Boerum Hillers. There won’t be food for another couple of weeks, but we hear that the coffee and booze are flowing.

  1. I’m proud to be an overpaid, coffee and import-beer drinking, book reading, Powerbook toting nerd and I’m definitely going to frequent Building. Mostly because it’s a block away and I’m even lazier than I am yuppie

  2. there are strollers and macbooks in the neighborhood. get over it. don’t worry. no one had any of those pesky babies or books there last night.
we had a great time here. it’s inviting and friendly. the place is beautiful. not overly designed or polished, just really thoughfully crafted and fun. i’m looking forward to seeing the menu and maybe even…god forbid bringing my laptop with me one morning for some coffee.

  3. Call me a cynic, but this venture reeks of pretension to me. These guys spent months (and untold dollars) making this place appear “retro” and trying to give it a “broken-in” feeling. Even the self-consciously “sloppy” signage looks calculated and is charm-free. Building already seems to have been claimed by neighborhood dilettantes with their Macbooks and SUV-sized strollers, and they’re not even serving food yet. I hope I’m wrong–I really do–but Building on Bond doesn’t look like it’s aiming to be my kinda place.

  4. That was me, and yes, I am very popular, while, as a matter of fact, it was a caffè corretto I was sipping. With regards to the paper, see, that’s just a prop to disguise my peering.
