Got a favorite Brooklyn street snack? Here’s your chance to give some love back to the folks who serve it to you. The Street Vendor Project supports NYC’s 10,000 street vendors, most of whom are recent immigrants and work long hours under harsh conditions just to make ends meet. On October 22 at 8:30 PM, the organization is hosting the 2nd Annual Vendy Awards, a fundraiser that celebrates the city’s best street eats…

Last year’s event took place in a cold garage, and four very triumphant Manhattan street vendors served their specialties to bundled-up visitors. As the awards were presented, the wine-buzzed crowd went rock-show wild, and the vendors instructed the audience to join hands shout, “VENDOR POWER!” in each of their native languages. In short, it was the most life-affirming food event we’ve ever been to. This year, it’ll take place at St. Marks Church-in-the-Bowery (Second Avenue and East 10th Street), and we’ve got to get a Brooklyn street chef into the running. Please recommend your favorite(s) in the comments to help drum up some local support, and then nominate them. We’re thinking about nominating someone from the Red Hook ball fields, but all the food there is so delicious — it’s hard to choose which one we like best.
