With less than two weeks ’til opening day, the Brooklyn Flea gets some serious love from New York Magazine today. The weekly spotlights 17 of the 200 or so vendors that will be on hand for the April 6 kick-off, including Prague Kolektiv, which will be selling a number of these cool mid-century Czech cocktail carts, and Eddie Hibbert, who will have a bunch of salvage items like the mantel above. On another note, we’re looking for a handful of attendants to man the exits from 10 to 5; if you know of anyone looking to make a few bucks on Sundays, drop an email to flea@brownstoner.com.

agreed on prices at prague kolektiv, however, it’s pretty amazing stuff. the modernists were alive and well in the czech cities before communism took over. i have to say it’s a really interesting design style – deco, futuristic, yet totally desirable.

This sounds like a retail fair, not a flea market. I was planning to go until I read they NYMag description and saw the photos. am I alone in being disappointed?
The Prague Kolektiv is totally insanely overpriced. Ideal for a recession! Mr. Brownstoner, maybe if more people buy you can get your totally coewl cocktail table as a complimentary gift. Please everyone charm in we are losing web hits! No more real estate market to tawk about.

I can’t wait for the Flea to open; I just hope against hope that there’s some dirt-cheap bargains that aren’t tube socks. Something about Czech cocktail carts has me worried on this account, however. “Mid-century” is usually a term meaning “barely old and very overpriced.” Well, I’ll check it out–maybe there’ll be some unusual snacks!
