spitzer-03-2008.jpgIs there anything else to talk about today? If Spitzer leaves office, we’re probably only going to be left with a lot of questions about how he might have triggered change for New York City in general and Brooklyn—and Brooklyn real estate—specifically. As Norman Oder notes on Atlantic Yards Report, Spitzer mostly kept mum on AY, thereby offering his tacit approval for the project. Oder writes that if Spitzer is replaced, his successor might affect changes in Phase 2 of the mega-development. In another big real estate-related topic, Spitzer long ago proposed raising the decontrol cap on rent-stabilized apartments, which would have had a huge impact on a wide cross-section Brooklyn tenants and landlords. (This push hadn’t been discussed in many months, though it presumably would have been revived if Democrats gained control of the State Senate.) There’s also the question of how Spitzer’s resignation might affect congestion pricing, which he had reportedly been drafting a bill for. Any other ideas about the potential fallout for Brooklyn?

  1. Its not just a “Sex Thing”. This guy was involved with high priced prostitutes, and based on the wire-taps, it was not a one-time thing.

This guy was the most powerful AG and now governor of NY. Sex issues aside, it is a tremendous conflict of interest to be engaging in clearly illegal activity. Also makes you wonder where he was getting the money to pay for this?

  2. What I want to know is what was Spitzer working on that was SO crucial to his detractors that this was set up? This didnt happen out of a vacuum. While the general public gets all worked over the whole sex thing, I ssuspect there is a MUCH bigger issue being dodged.

  3. I admit I dont know who Brian Bosworth is, I am actually fairly young, but I really was refering to his “Corportate Crusader” and “Mr. Clean” Legacy. Surely he is smarting from the thought of forever being known as “Client Number 9” from now on.

  4. Truly a disgrace and is bad for NYS/NYC. Here are just a few projects that will be effected on some level by this moronic egomaniac:

    1. 2nd Ave subway (already 1yr behind)
    2. WTC site (way behind – and getting more so as State is in charge of Deutche Bank Bld)
    3. Eastside Access – LIRR/Granc Central
    4. Moynihan Station (already at risk)
    5. Brooklyn Bridge Park (see #4)
    6. Javits Convention Center future
    7. Atlantic Yards (many are cheering this)
    8. Hudson Yards

All the above will be adversly effected and delayed or canceled because “The Steamroller” didnt figure out that someone might actually find out that he was seeing hookers on a regular basis.
