Signage has gone up and construction has started at the old Downtown Bar & Grill space at 160 Court Street, where Rag & Bone plans a store. The tipster who sent us this photo said he hears they are paying $190 a square foot a year, a record rent for Cobble Hill.

  1. I understand the aversion to chains in general, but I’d soooo much rather have a Chase or a Dunkin, or God forbid, a Starbucks, before a stupid boutique selling $200 shirts, or artisanal mayonnaise or some such thing. Mom and pop stores are great, but mom and pop need to recognize utility as well.

  2. OMG- yes- first MacDonalds then Chase… That’s just crazy. There are quite a few expensive (ish) clothing shops on Court, but at least some of them are small businesses- which I don’t mind supporting when I can. It’s the chains that bother me.
