“What do a towering 1960s surgical lamp, a carved wooden 18th-century Moroccan table and a humongous stuffed elk head have in common?” asks New York Magazine. The answer: Darr. We’ve been a fan of the eclectic home design store in Boerum Hill ever since our brother-in-law worked there for like two weeks last year. Run by a colorful duo (a former window dresser and production designer), the store is a stand-out on an increasingly great shopping strip. We found a wonderful pair of white china lamps there last Fall (though the wiring on one turned out not to work. Grrrrr.) Anyway, a more fun selection of items is hard to find. What kind of experiences have others had there?

  1. Being pals with the owners isn’t a bad thing, is it? What is great to me about Brooklyn (although I think you can create it anywhere if you want) is the potential for personal relationships with your neighbors, shopkeepers, et al.

  2. agree this is one of my fav shops on atlantic….the old shoe warehouse racks are fab….rite now they have all these stuffed animals, qwirky art, 3000 year old items…..they are looking and we are hope-ing they find a foyer piece for us now

  3. Must be another shop – store with ‘Darr’ sign on Atlantic, right next to Sir, closed – might have been Darr’s old location, and signage never changed. The one I passed was most definitely closed/empty and said Darr on window, but sounds like old/different spot. Sorry for confusion.

  4. I think Darr just closed, actually…unless they have another location. The storefront on the south side of Atlantic b/w Hoyt and Bond closed this week. They had a clearance sale last week, but store was empty when I walked by last night.
