Sex and the Brooklyn

It makes you wonder: Now that much of Manhattan has turned into a theme park version of “Sex and the City,” would Carrie Bradshaw and the gang still live on the island? Probably not, since Manhattan is as played out as a pair of last season’s Manolos. “It’s expensive, and it’s not what it used to be,” Sarah Jessica Parker tells the Daily News. “That’s why the outer boroughs are so desirable. The outer boroughs are pretty sexy. It’s just a matter of time before they have their own shows.” According to the article, “If ‘Sex’ were starting over today, Carrie would rock out Carroll Gardens. BFF Miranda started out in Park Slope, but later, she’s bound to settle down with Steve, Brady and a brand new car in spacious Red Hook,” while Samantha would roost in Long Island City and Charlotte would play house in Riverdale. The article has quotes from Brooklyn residents who say stuff like, “Carroll Gardens or Williamsburg have a little bit of the hip edge that Carrie has, so she’d be able to get away with her funky outfits and no one would think twice about it.” Hip, edgy, less expensive than Manhattan: You heard it here first, folks. Also, the apocalypse is nigh.

GHB, actually jerri referenced Moonstruck during a discussion on Brooklyn Heights yesterday, but it’s worth a second mention. Thanks.
Old money families aren’t well behaved. Where did anyone get that idea? Do you know any families like that? I do. Emotionally detached. Cynical kids who are teenage alcoholics. Divorce. Fighting over the will. Speaking of fighting over the will, would the Astor’s recent battle make you proud if it happened in your own family? Or look at the tackiness of most royal families. Yuck. Who aspires to that?
Pretty is as pretty does. No matter how old or new your money might be.
Real Housewives of NYC is fabulous TV. Anyway who disdains it is a pretentious twat. Almost as bad as Alex and her Eurotrash hubby.
As for the housweuives, Jill Zarin is wonderful. She’s from “the Jewish ghetto” as she says and is totally tacky, but how can not love her!!!
You guys really have to read that Cobble Hill blog thread. It gets pretty ugly.
The ONLY thing I’ve heard used to describe this show so far is lowest of the low. The couple times I watched (each only a few minutes) I could literally feel my brain being eaten alive.
It has good ratings (allegedly) because everyone likes to watch a good trainwreck!!! That’s all.
And that’s just what this show is.
A complete and total trainwreck which highlights how shallow, money obsessed and disgusting many Americans are.
AT LEAST Sex and the City used lots of humor. And at least those were just fictional characters.
Btw, I think Butler Street is in Boreum Hill, not Cobble Hill.
Might want to change that on your wife’s resume.
I know it’s got the projects, but embrace it anyway.
This show is even worse than MILLIONAIRE MATCHMAKER!!! If you can even believe it.
2:23…You’re my new favorite!
daveinbedstuy… Good movie list, but you left off MOONSTRUCK (my favorite-1987) and SWEET NOVEMBER (1968). Although not a great film, SN had some good Promenade/Heights locations.
2:23 #2, we love you too! Please get yourself a sign-on handle and join us in our efforts to spice up things and promote kinder, gentler (or at least funnier) blogs worldwide.
“Jewish men are fantastic in bed..”
You’ve got me singing the Haftorah, my shayne maydela!!
And you live in CG, yet don’t think it’s the be all and end all, you don’t bash PS, and think one can actually live the SATC lifestyle?
Jerri, Dave, we have a winner!
Gilligan’s Island will live forever. That was good television. I’ve never seen this show and now have no desire to do so. BTW, the goatee is so 90s, or was it 80s
Stone Park Cafe? – I wish – there haven’t been 2 women as good looking as the SITC chicks in that restaurant since it opened 4yrs ago – and I think the SITC chicks are all pretty lousy (except for the one in the middle above)
I know everyone here would like to knock PS and other gentrified Brooklyn neighborhoods as nuvo-Manhattan but speaking as someone who loves hot thin women in expensive high heals, it is simply fantasy to believe that demographic has any sizable presence in Brooklyn – much less Park Slope.
The best I’ll give you is that you’ll occasionally see a cheezy hot, thin Bay-Ridge chick in (cheap) heels stumbling out of the Loki Lounge or a reasonably hot not-fat Mom whose husband couldnt afford Manhattan – walking in flats on 5th Ave.
You know the saying about money.
Better noveau than ne-ver.
