Council Member Tish James is calling for shuttle service along the L and G lines — power isn’t expected to be restored until later this week. The MTA ceased running the shuttle buses from Downtown Brooklyn into Manhattan yesterday, when most of the subway service was restored. But Tish James is asking for temporary shuttles along the L and G lines until full service is back along those lines. Lincoln Restler also began a petition asking for the service. Currently, the only way out of North Williamsburg and into Manhattan via public transportation is on the East River Ferry. However, residents can walk or take buses (most overcrowded) all or partway to the J and 7 trains to cross the river to Manhattan. Yesterday The Observer reported that the MTA said fixing these two lines has become their highest priority. As of yesterday, the L train still had major flooding up to the Bedford Avenue station, and the G train hadn’t come back yet due to lack of manpower. Update: here are photos of the MTA pumping out the L train tunnel yesterday afternoon.
