The transformation of Clinton Hill’s Putnam Triangle will begin soon. According to the Fulton Area Business Alliance, the installation of the pedestrian plaza is scheduled to start in mid-September. At the beginning of the summer the DOT presented plans for 15,000 square feet of pedestrian space that will stretch on to the sidewalk on Putnam as well as the street itself between Fulton and Grand. At the time, some residents expressed concern the plaza would exacerbate crime in the area. In order to discourage loitering, tables and chairs will be removed from the plaza at night, and security cameras were installed in June. FAB is planning a block party to launch the new plaza on Sunday, September 25, 2011. Details will be announced after Labor Day. The installation of the plaza is coinciding with a lot of commercial and residential growth in the immediate area (see here, here, here, here and here). Talk about exciting stuff!

  1. This is a really big deal. I think it will be great for the neighborhood… if someone can open a bagel place or a nice to-go food shop on that putnam strip where LOX and HILL CAFE currently exist, they’ll do quite well for themselves.
