There was lots of activity on the Clinton Hill stretch of Fulton this weekend. The weekend started with a bang—literally—as someone was shot at the Putnam Candy Store early on Friday evening. (And if you think it was over candy, we’ve got a bridge to sell you.) On Saturday night, the new locavore food shop at 920 Fulton called Brooklyn Victory Garden opened its doors. On Sunday, the Fort Greene Hill Food Co-op crew gathered at their new headquarters at Putnam and Downing, a few doors down from the Putnam Candy Store, for a group cleaning effort.
Bobo is an Asian-owned local company with very delicious chickens; they are $14-15 at BVG. You can find them a few dollars cheaper if you want to go to Chinatown, but I’m happy to have a nearby source.
Bullets and locavores–the absolute hip sweet spot on the journey of gentrification.
Define not cheap? Is a fresh chicken $10? $15? $20?

Bobo chickens
?! so even the damn chickens are bougouise bohemian? barf
*rob*
I stopped in BVG yesterday. They have fresh, not frozen grass-fed beef and Bobo chickens, which are excellent. I didn’t look too closely at the cheese.
The prices aren’t cheap, but local organic food, especially good meat, unfortunately isn’t cheap. I plan to shop there regularly so that they stay in business!
Southeast Clinton Hill is the center of the universe.
What are the prices like at BVG? I guess I’ll have to stop by at some point. It looks a little more along the lines of Bklyn Larder than a market to grab fresh fruits/veggies.
How exactly is the Putnam Candy Store still allowed to operate? I’m guessing the yuppie food coop won’t be psyched on shootings. Organic food kills, apparently.
My quest for retro Abba Zaba, candy buttons, wax bottles/lips this time of year would get me shootin’ anyone encroaching on my find.
