If you are bursting with excitement at the arrival of warmer weather you can join fellow celebrants with a packed weekend of activities in Prospect Park.
The Prospect Park Alliance is hosting a “Spring Fling” in Brooklyn’s backyard with events for all ages. There are more than a dozen events scheduled for Friday, May 17 through Sunday, May 19.
The fun starts on Friday night with Lola Star’s Dreamland Disco at the LeFrak Center for those 21 and over from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. There will be contests, giveaways and performances. It’s suggested that you snag a ticket in advance.
The majority of the events will begin Saturday, and you can start things off bright and early with a half marathon — or, for a more leisurely pace, a morning bird walk.
You can also get a dose of history on Saturday with an exhibition game by the Brooklyn Atlantics, who play baseball by the 1860s rules of the game. Or head to Lefferts Historic House for a workshop on using natural ingredients for fiber dying.
The fun continues on Sunday with walking tours, workshops and the Spring Fling Fair at the Children’s Corner. There will be family-friendly activities, music and food from 12 to 3 p.m.
Ending the weekend with a cultural bang will be “Molière in the Park: The Misanthrope.” Samira Wiley of “Orange is the New Black” headlines the cast for a staged reading of the classic comedy at 7 p.m. at the LeFrak Center. There will be a second reading on Monday, May 20 if you miss out on Sunday’s performance.
Throughout the weekend you can also stop by the Carousel, Lefferts Farmhouse, the Audobon Center, the Zoo and the LeFrak Center.
The full list of events with exact times and locations can be found here. Many of the events are free, but some do require an RSVP. Brownstoner is a media sponsor for the event.
