A few days ago DumboNYC mentioned that there was talk of the NYPD moving its Property Clerk’s office to Dumbo, and now The Daily News has some neighbors’ reaction to the proposal: They’re not thrilled! The complaints center on the proposed Front Street location being near the middle school that will be built as part of Two Trees’ Dock Street project, as well as the fact that the area is a tourist hub. Community Board 2 District Manager Rob Perris and City Councilman Steve Levin are both wary of the proposal, with Perris saying that the current clerk’s office in Downtown has better protection because it’s in the same building as a precinct. Meanwhile, one local who’s not happy about the move says it’s worrisome because of the unknown criminal histories of the people coming to collect their belongings. The move could happen by the end of the month.

  1. so this whole building will be dedicated to holding the jewelry and personal effects of everyone that is incarcerated in Brooklyn? That’s unbelievable. NY is amazing. So every day there will be a steady stream of just-released prisoners walking to this rather out of the way site to pick up their bling.
    How odd.

  2. That would be like putting Manhattan’s property clerk’s office in Soho. I can understand you want it close to the courthouse, but hmmmm. What’s wrong with the current location? I understand space is a premium, but this seems like sending jewel thiefs to the diamond district to collect their belongings.
