BROOKLYN FLEA LAUNCHES SECOND OUTDOOR MARKET UNDER HISTORIC BROOKLYN BRIDGE

The Brooklyn Flea expands this weekend to a second outdoor market at a breathtaking location: directly under the Brooklyn Bridge on the waterfront with stunning skyline and river views. The 30,000-square-foot lot is part of Brooklyn Bridge Park and will feature a similar mix of vintage/antiques, art/crafts, and food vendors that attracts more than 5,000 people to the Fort Greene Flea every Saturday.

Brooklyn Bridge Flea builds on the Flea’s success since opening in April 2008 as an entrepreneurial incubator for its hundreds of vendors, community town square for its thousands of visitors, and economic engine for dozens of nearby businesses. Despite a challenging economic climate, the Flea has launched a holiday market, two winter “pop-up” markets, and now a second outdoor market to complement the thriving Fort Greene location and establish the Flea as New York City’s premiere weekend shopping destination.

As its heart and soul, Brooklyn Bridge Flea will feature the region’s top vintage and antiques vendors, from bigtime Hudson, NY, and Pennsylvania dealers to veteran costume-jewelry buyers to cutting-edge prop stylists cleaning out their closets to local collectors of postcards, clocks, handbags, maps, pins, salvage, and more. The curated mix of the most talented up-and-coming Brooklyn artists and artisans is unique to the Flea.

And of course the food will be delicious. The awesome new Red Hook Lobster Pound will begin serving lobster rolls made with fresh Maine lobster on Sunday, June 28. Stumptown, the top Portland, OR, roaster will brew its perfect coffee onsite every Sunday. Flea favorites Rick’s Picks, McClure’s Pickles, Fine + Raw Chocolate, Blue Marble Ice Cream, People’s Pops, Early Bird Granola, and Whimsy + Spice will be selling every week. And more exciting food news will be announced in coming weeks.

This Sunday only, the Flea has partnered with Time Out NY for a “Curated Corner” with a twist–all the proceeds from sales at its booth of donated items will benefit the local Madison Square Boys + Girls Club’s cultural programs. Time Out editors have curated designer clothing from Tracy Reese, Clu, Cri de Coeur; quirky housewares from Kiosk; vintage jewelry from Treasures + Pleasures; and gear and decor from Smith + Butler, among others–all at Flea-friendly prices.

At 1:00pm this Sunday, June 14, a press conference celebrating the Flea’s expansion will feature Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz, Council Members Tish James and David Yassky, and other local officials.

See you at the Flea!

  1. We can assure you that there have been at least two Eames chairs for sale at The Flea. The question you should be asking is whether there have really been three Russian dolls for sale! That would really put us on the ropes and send us scrambling to hire a P.R. firm…
