PowerHouse Books Dumbo Moving

In honor of two hyper-relevant book releases, Dumbo’s powerHouse books will host two launch events dealing with the topic of a gentrifying New York, and how that manifests in everything from storefronts to romance.

The first launch, from 7-9 p.m. on December 1, is for Ed Hamilton’s new fiction work The Chintz Age, which tells “tales of love and loss for a new New York.”

The book, comprised of seven stories and a novella, discusses the city’s rapidly changing, increasingly capitalist culture clash, while also noting that the phenomena is worldwide.

The second, from 7-9 p.m. on December 2, is for Store Front II: A History Preserved: The Disappearing Face of New York by James and Karla Murray. A follow-up to the first Store Front publication, this photo essay on mom-and-pop shops documents the changing fronts of classic New York stores and businesses.

A local business themselves, powerHouse Arena recently announced that they too will be changing fronts in a move from their massive Dumbo space to a smaller location. A similar story of love and loss and rapid capitalist change, eh?

To attend either of these launches, RSVP online — here for The Chintz Age, and here for Store Front II. Both will take place at powerHouse’s current Dumbo location on 37 Main Street.
