Main Post Office Getting a Tune-Up
Did anyone else notice the scaffolding going up around the beautiful Brooklyn Main Post Office on Adams and Tillary? As far as we can tell, this is most likely the set-up for the $1,340,000 Federal Stimulus project that was awarded to the Boston-based firm Goody Clancey for roof replacement and facade repairs. Good stuff, but not sure why they couldn’t find a local firm to do the work.
I was there by accident when GSA was surveying the facade. Turns out there is considerable damage, especially on the Tillary Street side of the building. Water damage and some bowing of the facade means much of the exterior walls will have to be repaired.
Does anyone remember when the signs for the reconstruction/renovation first went up? Final completion date was to be Spring, 2001…
Why didn’t they award the contract to a local firm? Not sure, but maybe it has something to do with a competative bid process.
If they had spend more money to give it to a local firm, idiots like Joe From Brooklyn would accuse the mayor of corruption and favoritism in awarding contracts.
Funny.
Holy boondogle!
Yes crafty the post office just went through a TWO HUNDRED million dollar renovation…

SICK, truly sick – why doesnt our press ever investigate this stuff (like the $75M project at BHOD, that is apparently just going to be torn out)…to busy covering nonsense about Harry Reid and Sarah Palin????
Didnt a full scaffolding just come down about 2 years ago?
As long as the same slack-jawed civil-service morons work inside, you’ll have to forgive my dispirited shrug about what the outside looks like. Good Christ is that place ever a hellmouth. To really fix it, spend stimulus money on a bunch of consultants armed with copies of Emily Post, machine guns and minimal patience.
Because our mayor covers up graft with his fake $1/year salary
Probably because NY companies charge too much…
