I can’t imagine why they would judge you harshly for that. Certainly it shouldn’t be any of their concern. I think, no matter when a child comes from, adopted or biological, there are no guarantees. You do the best you can. What more can you possibly do?
I agree that child services in this country needs a complete overhaul, but even if it were, my gut feeling is that older kids would still get the short end of the stick. Anytime i’ve heard someone talk about adopting, it’s always about an infant or very young child. I think older kids are simply not on the map for most people looking to adopt. True, older kids will have a whole lot more problems, but without a chance, they will grow into even bigger problems for society. It’s a heartbreak.
