Police Presence at Lafayette Gardens
After two violent incidents (one shooting and one stabbing) in the last month at Lafayette Gardens, it looks like NYPD decided it was time to bring in a Skywatch unit.

VOLTRON!!!
I remember these things were at Gates and Marcus Garvey half the time back when we lived in Bed Stuy. There one week, gone the next and back again.
Sappers at the wire.
ahhhh, good times. And by “good” I mean NOT.
LG is the 79th pc, 88th is across the street. These are probably 79th or BNTF up in the cherry picker. Maybe they are watching the 88th guys…
so if a crime occurs outside of the 88th, the cops in the 88th don’t have to do anything about it? where is the police commissioner, STAT!
yeesh. I walked by this place for the first time (on my way to Dough) right after the shooting must have taken place. Glad I didn’t know what was under the tarp at the time…
I remember talking to a Pratt student about the precinct thing before, because even though the 88th has a station across the street to the west, these buildings are on the other side of the Classon boundary and therefore belong to the 79th precinct. So no one watches this place.
” How does the community feel about them? Reassured or stigmatized? It can go both ways.”
it can but when people are getting shot it is reassuring to have one arrive. We had one on Franklin Ave and when they decided it would come down the locals spoke out and wanted it to stay, it keeps the knuckle heads in check at least while it is around.
Tear these buildings down!
These always remind me of the tripods from ‘War of the Worlds.’ How does the community feel about them? Reassured or stigmatized? It can go both ways.
The skywatch installation only covers the western area of the projects, so it essentially sees the area that the 88th Precinct observes from it’s little fortress on Dekalb,
Ah well. Dough is doing well a few blocks over. I recommend a visit to it if you like a tasty doughnut.
If I were the pct commander or borough commander of the 88th pct. I would bury my head in sand from the embarassment of not only having these serious crimes committed in such close proximity to the pct. without any arrests but also at having to put eyes in the sky when you have eyes a few steps down in the pct. in blue uniforms. I guess the pct. personnel are there for show only as killings, muggings, etc. are commited at all hours of the day by the pct. without fear by the criminals of getting caught. Someone would have to explain to me if I were the commissioner how this is happening. I guess this coupled with the person eventually found dead in the car by the pct. parking lot who went unnoticed for days speaks volumes to the fact that although officers are working tirelessly and under stress to meet their quotas, they lack concern for the goings on right in their own backyard. Commanders should be held more responsible but I guess there is no need to worry when you are busy fudging crime stats for the comstat meetings to make it appear as though NYPD is accomplishing something under this administration.Eyes in the sky within a few steps of the pct. What a joke.
