In about a month, Po Restaurant will take over the vacant space at 276 Smith Street that once belonged to the short-lived Smitty’s. Po’s original location, at 31 Cornelia Street in Manhattan, was founded by Mario Batali and later sold to business partner Steve Crane. Eater posted the menu in December and it’s looking like yet another Italian spot. We’re not sure if there’s a need for another one of those on Smith Street, but then, we haven’t been to the original location. Is anyone anxiously awaiting Po’s arrival in Brooklyn?
Po Brooklyn Update: Menu Revealed! [Eater]
I went by the other day, it still isn’t open. Anybody know what is going on?
Well I’ve liven in the neighborhood for 150 years, before the italians even got here, and am I alone in saying that this old sailor wants some good dutch food? Anyone? Anyone?
Well, I’ve lived in the neighborhood for 80 years, and let me tell you, I like to go no further than my own kitchen when I want Italian food.
a 30 year neighborhood resident here and someone who wishes there were fewer restaurants on Smith – but am looking forward to Po.
Last time I ate at Po(maybe a year ago) it was definitely good but I think its overrated.
There’s Italian and then there’s… Po is fabulous and I can’t wait for it to open. It will set a high bar for Italian in the nabe (and Lunetta, Porchetta and the always reliable Queen) are at the top.
And as 26 year residents, we love be able to go to Saul (rather than Gotham) or Lunetta rather than Craft Bar…
“As a 20 year resident of this neighborhood, I tend to go out for an expensive dinner, I go to Manhattan. I don’t need to stay on Smith”
Gimme a break. As a 36 year resident I feel vindicated that I dont have to go to Manhattan.
Sometimes I wonder how all these places stay in business!
What the neighborhood really needs is a good music venue – not another italian restaurant.
But if it had to be food, can we get a cheap noodle bar or maybe a nice german spot? I can definitely see a small beer hall that serves good sausages and schnitzel doing well…
Yes, there seems to be an insatiable appetite for Italian food in CG/CH/BH area! My fave for neighborhood Italian is Cafe Carciofo on Court street.
