Yesterday we received word from an excited resident of Prospect Lefferts Gardens. The cause of her excitement? PLG just got its first organic market. Set-up was underway yesterday at the new store at the corner of Flatbush Ave and Lincoln Road when she snapped this cell phone pic for us. Back story: The shop’s called “JH Papa & Son Organic Market” and it was opened in the space of a former bodega by the owners of the existing Papa & Son market across the street. Are other PLG’ers just as excited?
I am very excited to see this new market come to the neighborhood. My wife and I stopped in this weekend and were delighted to meet the owner. While it may not be strictly an organic market, it does stock products that are mostly earth and health friendly, making it unique in the area. This market, coupled with the wonderful fruit and veggie market next door, make it very easy to choose healthier fare.
i passed by on sunday and nothing from the outside clearly indicated “organic”. i’ll check it out this morning and report back on how they define “organic” with the products they sell. it’s such a bastardized concept already. luckily there are 2 csa’s to serve the neighborhood.
I’m really happy that this store was opened by a long-exiting successful business and is,IMO, a really positive rsponse to”gentrification.”*
*I hate that word and don’t think it really applies to my neighborhood, but, despite my charter membership in the King Canute Society, the word is in common use 🙁
