Big Plans for Melissa Murphy
Sweet Melissa already has three locations in Park Slope and Carroll Gardens, and Executive Chef Melissa Murphy has plans to expand: “I am at this very moment negotiating a warehouse space in the neighborhood where I will relocate my Central production kitchen. It is 6200 square feet; we currently have about 1000 square feet. The new space has room for offices and enormous production capabilities. I want to maximize the stores that I have (we are adding a beer and wine license to both locations, and are creating a menu that compliments that)… All of this is being done so we can move forward with opening more stores when the time is right.” [Gothamist]
Park Slope’s Best Burger?
Chowhounders have been debating this topic for years, and one recent comment says: “This is the GOLDEN AGE for Hamburgers on Fifth Avenue in Park Slope; some day our children, and our children’s children, will long discuss the unsurpassed burger delights on this famed avenue, long after these restaurants have been replaced by banks.” Favorite burgers include those served at 200 Fifth, Bonnie’s Grill, Blue Ribbon, Cocotte, Belleville, and Stone Park Cafe.

Except that the donut shop was there before I moved to park slope in 1978….so it is a sad loss of a beloved shop…glad the newbies are happy…i will miss the donut shop. I remember a few hung over mornings with nothing more in my mind then some greasy eggs and bad coffee from that very donut shop…but the donuts were good and the company impecable….There goes Brooklyn….don’t you people get it!

Agreed. I was just countering the rather broad accusation that “The grocery stores in PS are terrible.”
i love people who say park slope is over because one donut shop which was opened 10 hours a week is closing.
park slope has more retail, restaurants and shops than all the other brownstone neighborhoods combined.
it can stand to lose a couple.
especially when that means improving one of the few nicer grocery stores in the neighborhood.

If closing Donuts results in a better grocery store, I’m all for it. The grocery stores in PS are terrible. For those who don’t have the time to work at the Co-Op, a bigger Associated might be a nice thing.
1:22 is correct. If you lazy Park Slopers managed to roll your doughy asses out of bed before noon you would know this. I loved that place. Nice people, good conversations, bad coffee.
Sweet Melissa’s has great food, and really crappy service. One time a friend and I waited so long for the wait staff to reappear in the back garden so we could get our check, that we just got feed up, and walked out w/o paying. I think we might have passed one of the AWOL staff on the way out, but no one said anything, so we just kept walking.
